Children’s work here in church centres on our Junior Church. We meet each Sunday at 11.15 am until 12.15/12.30 pm; through the year, with a holiday break in the summer. Parents remain in the building, within the church congregation.
We have lots of fun as we follow the Bible stories shared in church, learn about the basics of Christian faith, share prayers and sing together... Our art and written work forms a developing display and witness to faith for all to see, on our board in our church hall.
Each year we have fun events that reflect on our journey of faith for our children- at All Hallows, [For all the Saints], Christmas Fair, Good Friday worship Workshop and sharing in the service for Good Friday and the Summer End of Year celebration.
We are ably led by a small team of leaders with lots of experience and full of the joy of the Risen Lord. Fun and faith is built up in equal measure, remembering how our Lord loved children and always wanted to share God’s truth with all, and of course enjoyed a good party!
At times the children help in our service, by serving in Holy Communion, and in readings and prayers and songs—especially in all Age worship. They help in cleaning the church on our Cleaning Days, litter picking, or in the garden.
Unless supervised by their parents, all children are covered in Safeguarding by our policy to protect children and all vulnerable adults; all assisting adults are DBS checked, and supported by our Safeguarding Officer.Get help @ childline
At the close of each service we gather the whole Church family around our altar where we receive blessing and Holy Communion. Children, once settled in church and at least seven or eight years of age, having completed their classes for this, share in Communion too.
Later each child is offered, as a young person, the opportunity to be confirmed by the Bishop. All are welcome to bring their children to St John’s. Under fours stay with their parents until they are old enough to join Junior Church
SAFEGUARDING OUR CHILDREN AND KEEPING TO BEST PRACTICE IS ALWAYS OUR AIM AND PRIORITY AT ALL TIMES.
